video pre-production services — Crossroad Media

Pre-Production

Pre-production is where great videos are actually made — before a single camera rolls. Crossroad Media plans every production from concept to call sheet, for businesses across Vancouver, Surrey, and the Lower Mainland.

What Is Pre-Production?

Pre-production is the planning stage of video production: developing the concept, writing the script, casting the talent, scouting the locations, and building the shot list before filming begins. It’s the least visible part of the process and the most important one — every decision made here saves time and money on the filming day, and shows up on screen as a video that feels intentional instead of improvised.

It’s also why most of our corporate and testimonial projects need just one well-planned filming day. When the plan is right, the shoot is efficient — and your budget goes into the screen, not into overtime.

What’s Included

Concept Development

We start with your business goals and audience, then develop the creative angle and story that gets you there. Most clients come to us with a goal, not a finished idea — that’s exactly where we’re strongest.

Scriptwriting

Scripts and voiceover drafts written for how people actually watch — and checked against your real product claims. You approve every word before a camera rolls.

Storyboarding & Shot Lists

Every scene mapped before the shoot: what we’re filming, where, in what order, and why. The storyboard is the contract between the idea and the filming day.

Talent Acquisition & Casting

We source and coordinate professional actors and presenters suited to your concept and budget — and for interview-based videos, we prepare questions designed to pull out natural, usable answers.

Location Scouting & Scheduling

Locations, permits, timing, and a call sheet that keeps the day on track — across Vancouver, Surrey, and anywhere in the Lower Mainland.

Planning for Every Budget

Pre-production scales to the project. A single-location testimonial needs a lean plan; a multi-day branded commercial with actors and drone work needs a detailed one. Either way, the planning is built into your quote — see our video production packages for where most projects start, or our Video Production FAQ for real answers on costs and timelines.

Plan locked? The next step is the filming day — see how our production services work, or tell us what you’re trying to make.
