AI Video Production FAQ
Straight answers about AI video production — what it is, what it costs, what it can and can’t do. We’re Crossroad Media: a Surrey-based production company with over a decade of traditional filmmaking behind us, now producing commercials and brand content for businesses across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. These are the questions clients actually ask us. If yours isn’t here, get in touch.
The Basics
What is AI video production?
AI video production uses artificial intelligence to generate cinematic video — environments, characters, products, motion, even voices — without cameras, crews, or locations. At Crossroad Media, we pair these tools with 10+ years of real filmmaking experience: the tools generate the footage, but the story, direction, pacing, and polish come from professional filmmakers. The result is broadcast-quality video at a fraction of traditional cost and time.
How does AI video production work?
The same way a good production always works — minus the shoot days. We start with discovery (your business, audience, and goals), develop the creative (concept, script, storyboard), then move into AI production, where we generate environments, characters, voiceover, motion graphics, and cinematic sequences. You review the project at set checkpoints, we refine, and we deliver polished content optimized for wherever it needs to live — web, social, ads, presentations, or trade shows.
What types of AI videos can you create?
AI commercials, product launch videos, brand films, training videos, educational and explainer content, product demonstrations, spec ads, and social media content in every format. If it tells a story or sells a product, we can build it.
Can AI videos look realistic?
Yes — today’s AI produces photorealistic people, products, and environments that hold up on any screen. But realism isn’t automatic: it comes from knowing how light behaves, how lenses move, and how a scene should be paced. That’s filmmaker knowledge, and it’s why our work looks like cinema instead of a tech demo. Watch our Porsche spec commercial on our AI Production homepage and judge for yourself.
Cost & Timeline
How much does an AI commercial cost?
Crossroad Media’s AI commercial work typically ranges between $1,200 and $5,000. Where your project lands in that range comes down to scope: the length of the finished spot, how many scenes and environments we generate, whether it calls for custom characters or voiceover, and how many platform versions you need at delivery — widescreen for web and TV, vertical for Reels and Shorts, square for feeds. To put that range in perspective, an equivalent live-action commercial typically starts around $3,000 and can climb past $20,000 once crew days, locations, casting, and travel enter the budget. Our approach removes most of those line items entirely: no crew to book, no location to rent, no weather contingency. What you’re investing in instead is the part that actually makes a commercial work — concept, script, direction, and finishing polish from filmmakers with more than a decade of experience. At the lower end of the range, think a focused single-product spot with a handful of generated scenes and licensed music. At the upper end, think a full campaign piece with custom characters, multiple environments, voiceover, and a complete set of platform versions ready for paid advertising. The most useful first step is telling us two things: what the video needs to accomplish, and the budget you have in mind. We’ll tell you honestly what’s achievable at that number — and if your project would genuinely be served better by traditional production or a hybrid approach, we’ll say so. Request pricing and tell us what you’re building.
How long does it take to create an AI video?
Most projects deliver in days to a few weeks, depending on length, complexity, and revision rounds — compared to the weeks or months a traditional production takes. There’s no waiting on crew availability, locations, weather, or casting. If you have a launch date coming at you fast, AI production is usually the only way to hit it.
Is AI video production cheaper than traditional production?
Generally, yes — significantly. Our AI commercial work typically runs $1,200 to $5,000, while our traditional productions range from $3,000 to $20,000. That gap exists because the biggest costs of a live-action shoot — crew days, locations, travel, casting, and equipment — simply don’t exist here. What you still invest in is the creative: concept, direction, story, and finishing. That’s deliberate. A cheap-looking video is expensive at any price, and the reason our work holds up is that it’s directed and finished by the same filmmakers behind our traditional productions. There are projects where traditional production is worth every dollar — real people, real events, real customer testimonials. And there are projects where it delivers the same business outcome for a fraction of the spend. Because we do both, you get an honest recommendation instead of a sales pitch for whichever tool we happen to own.
What’s Possible
Can you create videos from just an idea?
Absolutely — it’s our favourite starting point. Plenty of clients arrive with nothing but a concept and a goal. We take it from idea to script to storyboard to finished video, and you stay in the loop at every step. Whether you have a fully developed product or a sketch on paper, we can turn it into a compelling visual story.
Can you create a commercial from a product sketch or prototype?
Yes — this is one of AI production’s superpowers. We can create a photorealistic launch video from CAD files, sketches, or prototypes, before a single unit is manufactured. Inventors and product developers use this to pitch investors, pre-sell, and crowdfund with a commercial that looks like the product already exists.
Can you create videos without filming?
Yes — entire videos, start to finish, with zero filming. And if you have existing footage, we can blend it with AI-generated content in a hybrid approach that stretches what you already have further than you’d think.
Can you create AI-generated actors?
Yes. AI presenters, characters, and spokespeople — no casting calls, no scheduling conflicts, no usage-rights renewals. They’re available whenever you need a new video, and they never age out of your campaign.
Can AI actors speak multiple languages?
Yes — the same presenter can deliver your message in multiple languages, naturally. For global campaigns, multilingual training content, or reaching Canada’s multilingual markets, this used to mean re-shooting everything. Now it’s a production option.
Can AI videos include voiceovers?
Of course. We produce natural-sounding AI voiceover in a wide range of styles and languages — or record human voice talent if the project calls for it. Many projects mix both.
Can you clone a voice?
Yes — with proper consent and licensing. A common use: cloning a founder’s voice so their company can scale video content without booking the founder for every session. We’re strict about permission — we only clone voices with documented authorization from the person who owns them.
Can you create custom characters for our brand?
Yes — recurring brand characters, mascots, and presenters that stay visually consistent across every campaign, season after season. Your character, your brand world, available on demand.
Where You Can Use AI Video
Can AI-generated videos be used for advertising?
Yes — that’s what most of our AI work is built for. Paid social, display, web, presentations, trade shows. It also makes it affordable to create multiple versions of an ad and test which one converts best.
Can AI-generated videos be used on social media?
Absolutely — every platform, every format. Vertical for Reels and Shorts; square and widescreen for everywhere else. Because AI production is fast, you can feed social channels consistently instead of rationing one expensive video across three months.
Can AI videos be used on television?
Yes — we deliver broadcast-quality files that meet TV specifications. Some broadcasters have disclosure requirements for AI-generated content; we stay current on those rules and will walk you through them for your specific placement.
Are AI-generated videos legal?
Yes — producing and using AI-generated video commercially is legal in Canada. What matters is doing it properly: licensed professional tools, no copyrighted material or real people’s likenesses without permission, and disclosure where regulations require it. The rules are evolving, and part of our job is staying ahead of them so you don’t have to.
Who owns the finished AI video?
You do. Once the project is delivered and paid for, the finished video is yours to use across your marketing — no recurring license fees, no usage windows expiring mid-campaign like traditional talent agreements.
Do I own all final assets?
Yes — all final deliverables, in every format and aspect ratio your project includes. If you want working files or generated source material beyond the final cut, tell us up front and we’ll build it into the agreement.
Working With Us
Can you revise the video after delivery?
Yes — and this is where AI production quietly saves you the most money. Updating a price, a claim, a product detail, or an entire scene doesn’t require re-booking a crew and re-shooting. Your video can evolve as your business does.
How many revisions are included?
Every project includes three rounds of revisions, spelled out in the contract we sign with every client — so expectations are clear before a single frame is generated, and there are never billing surprises. You’ll review the work at the concept, draft, and final stages, and because this is AI production, implementing your notes is faster than any reshoot could ever be.
Can you match our existing brand style?
Yes — colours, fonts, tone, pacing, and visual style. We study your brand guidelines and existing content before we generate a single frame. If you’ve already shot footage you love, we can match its look so AI content blends seamlessly into your library.
AI vs. Traditional Production
Can AI video replace traditional filmmaking?
No — and we’d know, because we do both. Real events, real testimonials, real human moments still need real cameras; we’ve spent over a decade filming exactly that across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. AI doesn’t replace storytelling — it expands what’s possible. We’ll always recommend whichever approach (or hybrid of both) actually serves your project.
When is AI video a better choice than live-action production?
When speed or budget are tight. When the product doesn’t physically exist yet. When the location is impossible or prohibitively expensive. When the concept can’t be filmed — exploded product views, impossible camera moves, fantastical worlds. When content needs frequent updates or many variations. If your project lives in any of those buckets, AI isn’t the budget option — it’s the better tool.
What are the limitations of AI video?
Honest answer: live events can’t be AI-generated — real moments need real cameras. Long dialogue-heavy scenes, exact likenesses of real people, and some fine product details can require extra craft or a hybrid approach. The technology improves monthly, but our rule doesn’t change: we’ll tell you straight what will and won’t work before you spend a dollar.
What industries benefit most from AI video production?
Inventors and product developers (visualize before manufacturing), startups (launch content on a startup budget), manufacturers and B2B companies (explain complex products clearly), tech companies, marketing agencies (scale creative output), real estate and development (visualize what isn’t built yet), and education and training teams. If what you sell is complex, expensive to film, or doesn’t exist yet — AI video was practically invented for you.
